Thrift Store Woes, Almost

08 January 2009
If you are a fan of the more frugal minded blogs you've no doubt heard about the situation with children's' clothes and toys, new laws, and thrift stores. This has me really worried. I managed to buy 90% of my kiddos back to school clothes at a thrift store. I help support my family by selling great thrift store finds on Ebay. Thrift stores really help my family in a big way, so I am somewhat panicky about this. Plus, Goodwill, consignment shops, and folks who hand make kids clothes will take a hit as well. I understand that children's safety is important, but this seems to be a very radical step that will end up hurting a lot of families financially.

Also, do you realize books are subject to this as well? I'd never thought about it before, but it sounds like it could hurt a lot of libraries. Again, I want all of our children to be safe, I just had no clue that books could contain high lead levels.

What are your thoughts about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act?

Woo Hoo! I was just finishing up this post when I read this great news! I want to happy dance all around the house! I fell so much better now and I'm sure all the thrift and consignment store owners do too!

SAVING is good.

I am glad they came to their senses. I too want kids to be safe, but my goodness! I also buy a lot of clothes from the local Thrift shop!
