Films for Families

I watched Fireproof last night. I know, I know, I'm a bit behind, but at least I finally saw it. And was blown away! It moved me to tears. It grabbed my heart and pulled. I cannot say enough about it. The kiddos watched it with me and enjoyed it. I am literally praying that Dan will watch it with me. I've asked several times and he keeps blowing me off.

Anyway, it got me to thinking how few really great Christian family films are out there. I am sure there are actually quite a few of them, but main stream media doesn't pick up on them, so I have no idea where to find them. I am getting more and more selective about what I allow my kids and even myself to watch these days. We need more films like Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and the Love Comes Softly series. I want my family to watch movies that show people living a Christ centered life, not just the opposite. I want them to know that living with faith, morals, kindness, and good judgement is the right thing to do, the "cool" thing, the only thing. My heart swelled with pride during Fireproof when Kirk Cameron was telling his dad something to the effect of he did not need Jesus as a "crutch" and Tristen started yelling at the tv "You do need Him! We all need Him!" Why can't there be more magazines, books, films, etc.. that realize we all do need Him, all of us?

So, now I am on a mission to find as many great Christian films as I can. I want my family to watch positive things on screen not things that promote sin and a godless life. We all deserve better than watching soulless garbage. If y'all have any suggestions of movies we should check out, please leave me a comment.

Hi,
I totally agree!!! Check out the movie "Joshua". We didn't realize the message behind it when we checked it out a few years back. Now we tell everyone about it. Very inspirational and really makes you think. Not one objectionable thing in it, either:-)

your right and i know you may not agree but i feel alot of what tyler perry is trying to say in his (not mamma) movies is that we have to draw closer to God, our families and put the good for the community around us first. heck i still would like to have some time to watch tv. of course here i cant. latin lady does not even own a tv

Oooh what you need is Feature Films for Families (http://www.familytv.com/). My whole family loved them when I was growing up -- they're not overtly Christian, but they have messages of hope and integrity that fit right into a Christian worldview. The Buttercream Gang, No More Baths, and Behind the Waterfall were some of my favorites... In addition to their own films they edit out objectionable content from certain mainstream films -- the only one of those we had was Space Camp, but I loved that one too.

Our library used to have a few of them, and I've found others at the thrift store even, so they're probably available (on VHS anyway) via ebay etc.

Something to check out anyway! :)
