Films for Families

22 April 2009
I watched Fireproof last night. I know, I know, I'm a bit behind, but at least I finally saw it. And was blown away! It moved me to tears. It grabbed my heart and pulled. I cannot say enough about it. The kiddos watched it with me and enjoyed it. I am literally praying that Dan will watch it with me. I've asked several times and he keeps blowing me off.

Anyway, it got me to thinking how few really great Christian family films are out there. I am sure there are actually quite a few of them, but main stream media doesn't pick up on them, so I have no idea where to find them. I am getting more and more selective about what I allow my kids and even myself to watch these days. We need more films like Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and the Love Comes Softly series. I want my family to watch movies that show people living a Christ centered life, not just the opposite. I want them to know that living with faith, morals, kindness, and good judgement is the right thing to do, the "cool" thing, the only thing. My heart swelled with pride during Fireproof when Kirk Cameron was telling his dad something to the effect of he did not need Jesus as a "crutch" and Tristen started yelling at the tv "You do need Him! We all need Him!" Why can't there be more magazines, books, films, etc.. that realize we all do need Him, all of us?

So, now I am on a mission to find as many great Christian films as I can. I want my family to watch positive things on screen not things that promote sin and a godless life. We all deserve better than watching soulless garbage. If y'all have any suggestions of movies we should check out, please leave me a comment.
