Dear Mother Nature
23 February 2010
I would just like to remind you that I live in Texas. In this part of the state it does not snow, yet we've had snow half a dozen times this winter. Thank you for the beauty of my first ever white Christmas. You can stop with the snow now. ;-)
My Day ~ It's Been A Hot One!
09 July 2009
It has been one of those days when you are really busy, yet feel you have accomplished very little. I did manage to make a great batch of fudge and get it down to the little shop I sell it in. At least that was a positive thing.
Then I had a lovely lunch with my dear friend Marge, she's 75 and one of my best friends. I could spend hours just talking to her. Our friend Kathy met us, and we had a great time. Kathy is in her 60s I believe, and is a great ppol player. They get together at the local pizza joint, drink tea, and shoot stick. My friends are so cool!
Then I came home to chores, ugh! I washed up the dishes, did some laundry, and just general straightening. I also started a pot of beans early this

Can't Phone Home
12 June 2009
Our part of Texas sure has been having some freaky weather. For three days now we've had severe thunder storms, complete with wind, rain, hail, and flash flooding. Good times! As a result, we've been without telephone service for a few days. The timing has not been great, as I have no cell phone and have really needed to be able to keep in touch with everyone this week. It looks like it will be Monday evening before I get my phone back. In the mean time it's pretty quiet around here.
Our powers has been an off and on thing for the past few days as well. The really weird thing is that the DSL connection is still going strong. I'll just be glad when they all are working properly again. But, it's promoted spending more quality time together, just me and DH as the kiddos are at camp.
Y'all enjoy your weekend. Try to stay cool. It's predicted to get to about 103 here tomorrow. Between that and the humidity, it should be a lovely day!

Windy With a Chance of Damage
10 April 2009
I don't know what the weather in your neck of the woods had been like lately, but here in Texas then wind has been blowing like crazy! When we lived in Lubbock I was accustomed to the wind sweeping down the plains, but here in Podunk the wind is generally very mild. For the past couple of weeks, it has been incredibly gusty and those gusts have wreaked havoc across the area.
Last night when DH came home the whole town was engulfed in a huge cloud of smoke. The winds were helping drive wild fires. There were over five within one hundred miles of our little town. It was so windy that the helicopters they use to transport water could not fly. It was scary! I am so scared of fire. The conditions lately are perfect for raging blazes, as we are in drought conditions and the wind is not helping matters at all.
The wind had also caused quite a bit of damage in town. Traffic was held up for quite awhile downtown last week, as a building's rough was in the middle of an intersection. Our across the street neighbors lost part of their roof in the wind recently as well. If it keeps up like this we will all be needing the services of folks like this Austin Roofer. Our roof is not in great shape to begin with, so I'm hoping it will survive these wicked winds. If not, we'll have to find someone like this who is currently offering a free roof inspection and estimate. They do great work according to the testimonials on their site. If the winds are giving your roof problems in the Austin area, click on over and check them out.
Today is still breezy, but cool here. Cool is a welcome change as we hit 90 here yesterday. It's going to be hot this summer I think. How's the weather your way?

Texas Winter Weather
27 January 2009

Well, it's a nice, icy, sleety, all around COLD day! The schools were released at 12:30, so the kids are thrilled! They say the schools were telling them they will probably stay home tomorrow. Time will tell I guess. For now we are about to have hot cocoa, chocolate chip cookies, and have a Wizards of Waverly Place marathon. I enjoy the extra time with my kids, but it sure has messed up my plans for the rest of the day. Oh well.
I'm hoping Dan will be able to get home okay. The roads are getting bad and the temp is falling with more moisture coming down. Hard to believe it was in the 90s just last week. Texas weather is so weird!
